A facilitator helps others to reach their edge by fostering a space in which all can thrive. The word facilitator comes from the French word faciliter which means to render easy; in the corporate world it isn’t actually useful to make things easy but instead to confront with compassion by asking searching, and even difficult questions. Augusto Boal coined the term difficultator in his Theatre of the Oppressed work to describe the joker role, the one who holds the space and confronts the players with their truth—directly, and with love.
