Now that the various celebrations to commemorate Queen Elizabeth’s 70-year rule of the British Empire are finally done and dusted, I feel okay to post my criticism on the blatant misuse—even abuse—of the term “Jubilee” to label this hugely expensive, indulgent-but-shallow festival of temporary feel-good patriotism. Not a fan, in case that isn’t obvious. I avoided all of it—including riding the Elizabeth Line which opened while I was in London. So what’s my gripe?
Always refreshing to hear why others will not celebrate the Jubilee. On many occasions, I have been told "leave history where it is". I'm sorry. That is not possible as I still live in the shadow of my name being changed, my grandparents not having equal opportunity on a land that is "theirs" by birth and the many jewels stolen from my ancestral land that resides in her very "crown jewels". Oh and not to forget the silencing of the abused for the sake of saving the face of that oppressive monarchy.

Iceland kind of did it after the 2008 defaults, no?
Very well written and good to hear your very valid points.
